In March 2017，a suspected case of sheep brucellosis was reported in a village in Hainan Province. In order to make sure the detailed information，identify the source of the outbreak and to put forward targeted suggestions on prevention and control of the disease，an integrated team was established by Hainan Center for Animal Disease Prevention and Control to carry out epidemiological investigation and surveillance，which involved 8 villages in the infected town. The infection with brucellosis was confirmed by laboratory test. It was investigated that the outbreak was likely to be caused by illegally purchasing unquarantined infected sheep by some farmers，and then the disease spread across the village through common grazing and using same breeding sheep. Persons were infected through contacting with infected sheep due to lack of bio-safety awareness. Therefore，some targeted suggestions were put forward，such as isolating persons from animals，constructing temporary pens for infected sheep，defining the fixed-point grazing grassland，prohibiting common grazing，killing positive animal groups，and strengthening quarantine，monitoring and publicity. It was investigated that the strict inspection and quarantine of imported animals and intensive bio-security protection were conducive to the prevention of human and animal brucellosis.
