As the key institutions in the efforts for animal disease prevention，veterinary laboratories have been acting as an important technical guaranty for veterinary administration and law enforcement supervision，with great significance in early warning of animal diseases and ensuring the safety of animal-origin food. In the paper，some shortcomings in the aspects of management system，performance and safety awareness of staff were considered to be available in the laboratories，for which，the following recommendations were proposed，including establishing or improving laboratory management system，clarifying positions and staffing，improving staff's awareness of safety，increasing professional training，strengthening supervision and evaluation or examination for staff，with a view to providing a reference for better work in the management of veterinary laboratories in the new era.
