Since an outbreak of exogenous lumpy skin disease（LSD）in October 2020，an epidemiological investigation and an extensive screening had been actively carried out in Inner Mongolia，a series of comprehensive prevention and control measures have been taken in the infected areas，such as blockade，quarantine，isolation，stamping out and harmless treatment，followed by vaccination in the threatened areas，regular quarantine and screening. The disease，due to effective measures for prevention，control and supervision，was eliminated and eradicated in a short period，supporting the healthy development of local cattle industry. In the paper，the process from occurrence to prevention and control of the disease，supervision and guarantee measures，problems therein，etc. were discussed，then some suggestions were put forward，including improving relevant policies，regulations and quarantine supervision system，strengthening the supervision for imported animals and those transported across provinces，and upgrading the capacities for animal disease prevention and control.
