In June 2021,a goat farm was found to be positive for brucellosis in a county in Guangxi, which was suspected to be an outbreak of goat brucellosis. In order to determine the cause, control further spreading of the outbreak, reduce any losses and to prevent any similar incidents,an epidemiological investigation was carried out by means of on-site visit, field investigation, questionnaire, sampling and testing. It was found that 10 farms/households in 3 administrative villages of 2 townships in the county were involved, which were epidemiologically related to each other, shared same grasslands and breeding goats, purchased or sold goats from or to each other. It was investigated that the outbreak was mainly caused by illegal introduction of infected animals, failure to quarantine the introduced animals as required and farmers' poor awareness for bio-safety. It was thus recommended that relevant authorities should increase the education on disease prevention and relevant laws and regulations, improve farmers' awareness for bio-safety and implement their responsibility as the actors for disease prevention according to laws, strengthen quarantine, avoid any sharing of same grasslands and breeding goats, and regulate any introduction and transportation of animals according to laws.
