In order to evaluate the effects of clostridium butyricum and astragalus polysaccharides on the performance, serum biochemical indexes and carcass quality of white-king pigeons,320 pairs of pigeons and 640 squabs incubated by them were selected and randomly divided into four groups, for the experiment groups(Ⅰ,ⅡandⅢ),0.1% astragalus polysaccharides,0.5% clostridium butyricum,0.1% astragalus polysaccharides+0.5% clostridium butyricum compound preparation were respectively added into the basic diet, and only basic diet was for the control group, and the experiment lasted for 28 days. The results showed that the fertilization rate was significantly higher in groups Ⅰ,Ⅱ and Ⅲ compared to that in the control group(P<0.05);the weight and average daily gain(ADG)in group Ⅲ were significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05);the level of albumin(ALB)and glucose(GLU)in groups Ⅰ,Ⅱ and Ⅲ were significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05),but the level of glutamic pyruvic transaminase(ALT)in the former was significantly lower than that in the latter;the level of low density lipoprotein(LDL)in group Ⅲ was significantly lower than that in the control group and groupsⅠand Ⅱ(P<0.05);the rate of water loss in the breast muscle in group Ⅲ was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05),and the shear force in the breast muscle in groupⅠ and Ⅲwas significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05). In conclusion, the performance of pigeons, meat quality of squabs and blood biochemical indexes could be improved by 0.1% astragalus polysaccharides and 0.5% clostridium butyricum. The application of compound synbiotics,as a replacement of antibiotics,in pigeon industry was supported with data obtained in the study.
