The global history of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia(CBPP)was reviewed, global achievements and practices therein were summarized, then the status and characteristics of the disease were analyzed. So far,CBPP had been completely eliminated in Europe,North America and Oceania, and 24 countries had been recognized as free of CBPP by the World Organization for Animal Health(WOAH);from 2005 to 2022,a total of 4 727 outbreaks were reported in 34 countries(32 in Africa and 2 in Asia),involving 365 506 infected animals;the outbreak sporadically occurred in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia in Asia, and was mainly prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa. In general, the global trend of the disease had slowed down, especially the number of outbreaks or countries reporting outbreaks had decreased significantly. In addition, the history of eradication of the disease in China was also briefly introduced in the paper.
