Human and animal health could be seriously threatened by Clostridium perfringens(CP) that was one of major foodborne pathogens. Avian necrotizing enteritis was mainly caused by CP,damaging global trade and production of broilers. The methods of detection and typing, vaccines and drug resistance related to poultry CP were mainly researched. As current poultry CP vaccines were mostly under laboratory research, antibiotics were mainly used to prevent and control the infection, but bacterial resistance accompanied with their frequent use, which limited their effectiveness. Therefore,it was urgent to study the bacterial resistance,to improve clinical diagnostic techniques and to push forward vaccine development. In this paper, the pathogenic characteristics and mechanism of poultry CP,as well as dominant epidemic typing in poultry were reviewed. The advantages and typing of various detection methods of poultry CP were summarized, the status of bacterial resistance, the development and progress of vaccines were described, and auxiliary control measures were put forward for the purpose of providing a reference for the prevention and control of CP infection.
