In order to investigate the prevalence of major animal diseases and the biosafety level of large-scale Hu sheep farms in Zhejiang Province,in 2022,56 Hu sheep farms with an inventory of above 1 000 sheep in the province were investigated by means of questionnaire and field visit. The results showed that the average mortality and abortion rate of sheep were 7.30% and 3.11%,respectively;diarrhoeal diseases occurred in 69.64% farms,Mycoplasma ovis pneumonia in 46.43% farms, and contagious ecthyma in 19.64% farms. In addition, other diseases such as sheep Chlamydia aborticus infection, jaagziekte and Sarcoptes ovis infection were also sporadically available. For biosafety, such shortcomings as poor capacity of teams, lack of facilities and systems for disease prevention, inadequate implementation and others were widely available in the farms. In conclusion, diarrhoeal diseases,Mycoplasma ovis pneumonia and contagious ecthyma were mainly prevalent in the farms in Zhejiang Province, with poor capacity of biosafety management. Therefore, the farms were recommended to strengthen the construction of veterinary teams, upgrade facilities for disease prevention, strengthen the construction and implementation of disease prevention systems, and to improve capacity for biosafety management to control possible occurrence and prevalence of such diseases.
